Hope is a Thing with Feathers

( s a t b )

"Hope" is the thing with feathers -

That perches in the soul -

And sings the tune without the words -

And never stops - at all -

And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -

And sore must be the storm -

That could abash the little Bird -

That kept so many warm -

I've heard it in the chillest land -

And on the strangest Sea -

Yet - never - in Extremity,

It asked a crumb - of me.

- Emily Dickinson

The beautiful poem of imagery and figurative language is gently brought to life in this lovely choral piece. The music moves delicately through harmonic and melodic intricacies that compliment Dickinson’s thoughts beautifully. The overall effect of the music is richness,  grace and purity. Like the text, the piece channels musical thoughts  both complex and simple. Dickinson’s depth in her symbolism are represented in in each voice through serene melodic and rhythmic movement as well as exquisite harmonies that are blended throughout. Truly an elegant experience for both singers and listeners.
